Supplies
If you're starting out, don't stress. Grab a pencil and any paper.
Then, gradually try other writing tools as you find your style and purpose.
Here are a few reliable stand-bys (many available at hobby store others from specialty stores like Paper & Ink Arts):
Paper
Tools - small lettering
Pen holder + nibs + ink starter set
Oblique pen holder (off-set style aligns easier for right-handed folks)
Tools - large lettering
Crayola markers (great for beginners!)
Karin Brushmarker PRO (Tombows ok, these are better)
Ecoline brush pen (extra juicy! and they're refillable)
Round tip brushes + watercolor paints (any, I love a good metallic!)
Other
Inks - Gold, White, other colors with smooth Nicker poster color or gouache
Digital lettering - iPad + Apple pencil + Procreate app
Workbooks & Courses
Flourished Hope - Copperplate Practice, Calligraphy Envelope Pro Course
Modern Calligraphy - Beginner's guide to pointed pen and brush book
Many more online! I recommend starting with penmanship and/or a drills course, then selecting other options as you gain a feel for the styles and tools that you like.
Great classes always happening at learncalligraphy.org too.
Handy add-ons
